Our students brought their creativity and talents to life during Production Day! From planning to shooting, they enthusiastically took part in the production process, gaining hands-on experience while showcasing their skills and teamwork behind the scenes.
Our students had the opportunity to learn from industry experts from Jomin Fabric and IrisPro, who shared their expertise in fabrics, window tinting, and interior applications. The session highlighted the importance of choosing the right window tints and curtains to manage UV exposure and how different lighting conditions can affect the appearance and colour of interior spaces. It was an insightful session that connected classroom knowledge with real-world industry practices.
Conducted by Glaire Eyewear, this interactive session gave our students the opportunity to explore different eyewear styles, try on a variety of frames, and measure their facial dimensions to discover which frames best suit their face shapes. Students also enjoyed an exciting lens durability demonstration, where the lenses were tested through hammering, stomping, and dropping from a height—yet remained intact! The session concluded with an informative sharing on how to choose the right frames for different face shapes, with students getting hands-on experience measuring their friends' facial dimensions.
Led by Prof. Khoo and Dr. Nicole, the session included an introductory lecture and Q&A, followed by a hands-on Creative & Cultural Mapping group activity. Students worked collaboratively to explore and map creative and cultural elements within their surroundings before presenting their ideas and insights to the group.
The workshop concluded with a reflection and discussion, encouraging students to connect their learning with real-world creative and cultural environments.
Equator College recently visited SMJK Jit Sin to conduct an engaging World of 3D Animation workshop led by lecturer Mr. Jason. During the session, students explored the real-world applications of 3D animation across modern media, discovered the professional production process, and put their creativity into practice through a fun hands-on activity making paper masks to learn spatial depth and form firsthand.

Demystifying digital storytelling, this hands-on workshop demonstrates how everyday technology can become a powerful outlet for visual expression. Led by Mr. Lim Chun Woei from Equator College, the sharing session at SMJK Chio Min introduced students to practical mobile cinematography techniques, dynamic camera angles, basic video editing, and core storytelling concepts. The session empowered participants to view their smartphones through a new lens and equipped them with the skills to craft engaging video stories on their own.
Equator College recently hosted the launch of Creative City as an Urban Development Strategy: The Case of Selected Malaysian Cities, a new publication co-authored by Assoc. Prof. TPr Dr. Khoo Suet Leng (USM) and Dr. Nicole Chang Shu Fun (Equator College). Officiated by Penang State EXCO YB Wong Hon Wai, the launch brought together prominent industry voices—including Penang State Art Gallery Chairman Lee Khai and Penang Arts Council Chairman Joe Sidek—to discuss the evolving role of the creative economy in Malaysian cities.
The Fine Art Department of Equator College invites you to Quietly Human, an art exhibition showcasing works by Ng Zi Teng, Teh Hui Yu, and Chloe Chua. Running from 7 August to 11 September 2026 at Wu Wei Tea in George Town, Penang, the exhibition highlights personal stories, human emotions, and reflective moments through fine art. Visitors are welcome daily from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM (closed Tuesdays).
