Heritage meets creativity in our latest student illustration competition. To prepare for the challenge, students conducted an in-depth site inspection of the historic Yeoh Kongsi, documenting every intricate detail from its ornate interior carvings to its majestic exterior silhouette. This immersive study served as the foundation for their entries, as students were tasked with capturing the essence of the Kongsi and reinterpreting its architectural beauty through their own unique artistic lenses.

Equator College was honored to welcome back Professor Phil Cleaver from Middlesex University London for an inspiring guest lecture. Students engaged in a meaningful dialogue about the power of layout, typography, and cultural expression. We thank Prof. Phil and Middlesex University London for their continued partnership in nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers at Equator.

A heritage building is a living testament to history, holding within its walls a thousand untold stories. To better understand the complexities of architectural preservation, our Built Environment students participated in a Heritage Conservation Study Tour. By engaging with these historic sites in person, students gained a firsthand understanding of the technical and ethical importance of preserving our cultural heritage while also bridging the gap between modern design and the preservation of our shared architectural identity.

The vibrant world of Peranakan art is more than just color and pattern; it is a meticulous language of design where every element carries a specific meaning. Our students stepped beyond the classroom to study the technical precision and cultural logic behind traditional Peranakan outfits and artifacts. By analyzing the "why" behind the intricate choices made by master artisans, students gained a deeper appreciation for how heritage informs modern creative identity.

Equator College extends its heartiest congratulations to Lee Yong Le, a Diploma in Graphic & Intermedia Design student, for securing the Special Award (SEA Region) at the HONOR Talents Global Design Awards 2026. Her brilliant entry, “Lantern Moonlight - Time of Reunion,” captures a whimsical moon rabbit concept across a series of stylish modern lifestyle essentials. We are immensely proud of Yong Le's achievements and her dedication to pushing the boundaries of contemporary design!

Moving beyond the theory of the classroom, our Fashion Department embarked on a 2-day study trip to Kuala Lumpur for an immersive, hands-on exploration of textiles. Students gained firsthand experience in how fabric selection dictates the design, structure, and overall creative process. Fabric isn't just a material; it is the foundational spark that inspires an entire collection. This trip empowered our students to bridge the gap between conceptual design and industry-standard production.

Exploring the heart of Malaysia’s animation industry, our students embarked on a 2-day visit to Lemon Sky Studios, Flystudio, and Anima Vitae. This immersive experience allowed students to learn firsthand from industry professionals, providing valuable insights into real-world production pipelines. A massive thank you to our hosts for fueling the creativity of Equator’s future animators!

Our students stepped into the world of traditional shadows in an exclusive workshop led by a master practitioner in the field. This immersive session moved beyond theory, offering a rare opportunity to hear directly from an expert and gain hands-on experience with the intricate craftsmanship and storytelling techniques of Wayang Kulit.

Unlocking the World of 3D Animation!
 Our lecturer, Mr. Jason, shared his passion and expertise with the students at SMJK Convent Datuk Keramat! The session ended with a lively Q&A + surprise gifts, leaving students inspired and dreaming bigger than ever.

Georgetown became a living classroom as our students embarked on a curated heritage trail. From iconic colonial landmarks to hidden architectural gems, the outing provided a deep dive into the diverse structures, traditional materials, and unique urban layouts that define our city’s history. This immersive experience allowed students to witness firsthand the evolution of Malaysian architecture.
